How to use a video or GIF as your wallpaper on Windows 10 and 11
Windows settings do not let you pick a video as your wallpaper. A free app can do it by playing the file underneath your desktop icons. All you need is a few clicks and your own video or GIF.
1. Prepare the file
Aurolis plays MP4, WebM, MOV, M4V and GIF files. A video looks best at a resolution close to your screen, with a start and end that join without an obvious jump, because the wallpaper plays it on a loop.
Use your own recordings or material whose license allows it.
2. Add the file to the app
Download Aurolis and open the library. Click Add, then File⦠and choose your video. You can also just drag the file onto the library window.
3. Set it as your wallpaper
The video appears in the library next to your other wallpapers. Select it and set it on your desktop. With several monitors, you can choose which one it shows on.
Will the video play with sound?
Not by default. You can turn on video wallpaper sound in the app settings.
Will it slow down my PC?
Video is usually light, because most graphics cards decode it in hardware. Very large files, such as 4K at a high frame rate, can put more load on older hardware. By default the app pauses the wallpaper during full-screen games and on battery. Read more in do live wallpapers slow down your PC.
No video of your own?
Take a look at the video wallpapers. They are ready-made looping clips you can install with one click.
