How to set an animated wallpaper on Windows 10 and 11
On its own, Windows only lets you set a picture or a slideshow. To get a moving wallpaper you need a separate app that plays the animation underneath your desktop icons. Here is how to do it for free in a few minutes.
1. Download the app
Go to the Aurolis download page and install the app. It is free and needs no account. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 and, once started, waits in the tray next to the clock.
2. Pick a wallpaper
Open the gallery or browse by topic, for example space, nature or wallpapers that react to your mouse. Every wallpaper page shows a moving preview.
3. Click “Install”
Your browser will ask whether to open Aurolis. Once you agree, the app downloads the wallpaper and sets it right away. You can also download the wallpaper file and open it in the app yourself.
4. Make it yours
In the library window you can switch wallpapers and change the settings prepared by the author. With several monitors, each one can have its own wallpaper.
Can I go back to a normal wallpaper?
Yes. Just close the app. Your regular wallpaper in Windows settings stays as it was, because the animation is only displayed on top of it.
